Let’s Build It
What is this?
What might we do?
What do we think of as a learning technology “project”?
How do we want this to proceed?
One possible path, aligning to each scheduled session:
- Brainstorm and gather input
- Scope and plan
- Prototype and iterate
- Review and complete
Some examples:

This H5P “branching scenario” shows how WordPress sign-ups can be supported… and hopefully particularly illustrates how ePortfolio projects with students can work.
Does your project need to be WordPress/H5P?
Absolutely not – though WP is a very powerful and flexible platform that we are well-positioned to support. It can also be used as a space to present other types of work — such as videos or a podcast. If your idea involves another tool, we can discuss!
You may want to host a virtual conference, or event.
It can even be a vendor project, but if you would like to use that platform in a course, we might use this process to clarify and map out:
- privacy
- accessibility
- pricing
- sustainability
- support
What supports will be available?

Thoughts?

Brian’s project…
Jason has thoughts on “site one at https://trubox.ca
So… after a period of brainstorming, Brian has decided on a…
Project objective: to rebuild Site One to make it a useful resource, to enhance the use of WordPress, and to reduce the confusion that the TRU community experiences when looking for learning technology support and information.
Consulted with: peers on the TRU LT&I campus support team. Also posted a query to the Open Learning “WordPress Support” Mattermost channel.
We identified the following goals/needs:
Theming along the lines of https://teaching.trubox.ca and https://workshops.trubox.ca
Primary goal: emphasize role of Site One as a “home base” for TRU’s WordPress platform.
- Sign-up process: make it more visible, and streamline the process as needed. (A tech update is pending.) Select “starter clones” for both common uses, and for specific courses/projects and make the on-ramps explicit.
- Create a visible “gallery” to showcase sites on the platform, to enhance awareness of what is possible.
Secondary goal: be something of a hub for the Learning Tech team’s identity and activities.
- Clear visible pointers to resources and activities.
- Contextual information on LT&I team work — likely a blogging area?
Desired supports: OL Media graphic design/multimedia assistance to apply existing theming. Ongoing feedback (and invited contributions) on wording, structure of the site from LT&I WP-oriented team members.
Next steps: approach OL Media to see what is possible and establish timelines. Create test space and import Site One content. Assess existing plugins, etc… on Site One and eliminate unnecessary ones.
Possible models:
Over to you…
Does this process makes sense?
Do you have a project idea, or would a brainstorming exercise be helpful?
Is it reasonable for you to bring a high-level goal and some key objectives to the next meeting? If so we can discuss them next week and work on scoping and planning together.
